About the Counsellor
NOMIN Altanzurkh
I had the privilege of studying the Bachelor of Counselling program at Griffith University, an esteemed institution with accreditation from the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). It has been four years since I worked in my profession, mainly providing bilingual individual counselling services to teenagers and adults.
After completing my undergraduate study in Australia, I returned home to begin my practice. At the Institute of Applied Psychology, I co-facilitated group counselling for teenagers under senior counsellor supervision. Then, I worked as a school counsellor at the British School of Ulaanbaatar, where I provided individual and group counselling services to students in both English and Mongolian.
Following my departure from BSU to the UK, I created "Nomin Counselling," my private online counselling practice, in response to client demand. Through my website, I offer bilingual services to better serve Mongolia's global citizens.
During my time in the UK, I expanded my perspective by working as a Teaching Assistant for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex social-emotional mental health needs. At the same time, I started offering part-time online counselling services through Blindcare, a Mongolian app that provides text and video counselling.
I currently live with my husband and our baby. In my free time, I enjoy drawing, reading, practising yoga, journalling, decorating our home, and playing board games. I wish to learn more about gardening, including caring for plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, I have a passion for all things eco-friendly and environmentally conscious.
Why did I choose to become a counsellor?
During my adolescent years, I began to experience various difficult emotions that I couldn’t understand or manage. At the time, I believed my parents wouldn’t comprehend what I was going through, and I didn't want to add to their worries. Additionally, our school did not have a psychologist or counsellor available to talk to. I noticed many of my peers facing similar challenges, with some enduring even tougher situations. This realization inspired me to become a counsellor, dedicated to helping anxious minds better understand and manage their emotions. My goal is to guide others in growing into adults who care for their own emotional well-being as well as that of those around them.
What is my counselling approach?
I am an integrative counsellor which means that I try to use ideas and techniques from various models of therapy including Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Collaboratively, we can formulate a treatment plan which is tailored to, and responsive to, your individual needs and unique circumstances. I am deeply person-centred in my core which means that my approach values the quality of the therapeutic relationship we co-create as being key to developing positive change. This philosophy also deems that I will offer conditions and attitudes which I believe are conducive to bringing about positive personal change for you. I will offer you non-judgemental acceptance, warmth, respect, understanding, openness and honesty.
